Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 as the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. She is the fourth Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta from her great-grandfather who was a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. Early on, her father began to take an interest in theater. As a college student in Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he was a part of numerous productions. Following his air force service In 1953, he starred in an air force production in Biloxi with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their first baby son Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. Walter went to Tulane University at New Orleans in the year 1957, after they had separated from the US Air Force. Walter became a member of Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio after the family relocated from Atlanta to Decatur in Georgia in the year 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou produced a Saturday morning local television show for children named Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964, a project that they funded themselves. They founded an Actors and Writers Workshop in the same year, which was in operation for a period of six years. Lelisa Billingsley who is also referred to as Lisa, was born in the year 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
